Let’s take a moment to thank the silent heroes who work every day to protect and care for animals in our communities — our Animal Care & Control officers. Their compassion and dedication make a huge difference in the lives of so many animals (and people)!
This week, honor them by doing something extra special: adopt your new best friend from one of our local animal control shelters. There are so many loving, adoptable dogs waiting for a second chance.

EMERGENCY PLEA – LIVES AT STAKE Berkeley County Animal Control is FULL.
The kennels are at maximum capacity, and unless adoptions happen soon, they will be forced to make heartbreaking decisions no one wants to see happen.
Please help.
So many loving, deserving dogs are sitting behind those shelter walls, waiting for someone to see them, to give them a second chance, to love them when they’ve known so little of it. They are not in our care, but they still need us—they need you.
These dogs need patience, love, and time. Some are scared. Some are confused. But every one of them just wants to feel safe. Please consider adopting, fostering, or simply sharing this post to help us reach someone who might.
Visit. Adopt. Share. Help us save lives.

Please… open your heart before it’s too late.

Tiggy is a stunning 3–5 year-old Presa Canario at (BCAC) since March 27, 2025. This gentle cuddle bug loves hugs and attention! She’d do best in a home with a spacious yard, no small kids or pets, and a family ready to help with basic training. Tiggy’s a treat-loving sweetheart who just needs patience and love to shine.

Chunk can be dog-selective (she prefers smaller dogs), and the kennel environment makes her shut down — but when she’s out, she’s a gentle, loving companion who just wants attention, cuddles, and a family to call her own.
She’s been at BCAC for a long time, and every day she waits is another day she dreams of a forever family.

Walter is a distinguished gentleman who proves that age is just a number and that different abilities make life more interesting, not less joyful. We suspect Walter may be deaf… or he thinks his advanced age has earned him the right to ignore us.

Midnight is a beautiful 2 yo German Shepherd mix & she is as sweet as they come! Midnight loves people (especially kids!), enjoys the company of other dogs, and walks nicely on a leash. Her loving personality shines through in every interaction. No cats or small animals, she has a high prey drive.

Meet Goose! Your new best friend & professional snuggle buddy. Goose is a young adult pittie mix(ed with unicorn obvs), 100% Good Boy!

River, male

Aspen, female
Aspen (left) and River (right), they are allegedly Heeler/Hound/Labrador mixes. They are around 16 weeks old. These two are very sweet, but need some work on socialization and basic obedience. Our understanding is they lived in the woods and were left to their own devices prior to going to MCAC. They can be a little scared and unsure, but we don't blame them!
It is imperative at this point in their lives that they receive proper socialization, training, and positive exposure. Preferably sooner rather than later!
Unfortunately MCAC do not have the resources to give these puppies the one on one care and attention they need to thrive. A shelter environment is stressful and scary, especially for young puppies that are already anxious and fearful.
At this point, they will consider short-term foster homes if they cannot find appropriate adopters or rescue commitments. These guys need out of the shelter so they can learn how to be "normal" dogs and go on to live healthy and happy lives!
They are VERY food motivated! They have received their initial vaccines (DAPPLV2 and rabies) and will be spayed an neutered late September/early October.
If you're an adopter interested in adding one of these guys to your family, please reach out! If you're a rescue or short-term foster willing to help, call MCAC now!
