Let’s take a moment to thank the silent heroes who work every day to protect and care for animals in our communities — our Animal Care & Control officers. Their compassion and dedication make a huge difference in the lives of so many animals (and people)!
This week, honor them by doing something extra special: adopt your new best friend from one of our local animal control shelters. There are so many loving, adoptable dogs waiting for a second chance.

COURTESY POST FOR Berkeley County Animal Control - WV
They’ve Been Waiting All Year… and They’re Still Waiting
The kennels at Berkeley County Animal Control - WV are full again — not just with dogs, but with stories. Stories of loyal hearts, broken beginnings, and endless hope. Many of these precious souls have been sitting alone behind shelter walls since January and February… still waiting for someone to notice them.
Midnight has the sweetest heart — a 2-year-old German Shepherd mix who adores people (especially kids!) and loves making friends. She’s been ready to love and be loved. She is high energy, no small animals.
Lola has watched spring, summer, and now fall pass by from the same kennel. Since February 28, this gentle pittie mix has greeted every visitor with quiet hope — and every evening, she’s walked back to an empty run.
Tiggy has been waiting since March. This beautiful Presa Canario is a gentle cuddle-bug who just wants a yard, a family, and a chance to be someone’s everything.
Yoko — big, goofy, loyal Yoko — is bursting with love and energy, but he needs a patient, experienced home to help him shine. His heart is as huge as his size, and he’s ready to give it all.
And then there’s Amber, who’s been there since January. Shy, sweet, and overlooked, she’s still hoping that one day soon, someone will finally choose her.
Each one of them has been forgotten by the world… but it’s not too late to change their story.
Adopt. Foster. Share. Visit. Even the smallest action — a share, a message, a moment — could be the reason one of these dogs sleeps in a warm bed instead of a cold kennel tonight.
**** The dogs pictured below are available directly through BCAC. If you’re interested in any of them, or just want to learn more, please call or visit Berkeley County Animal Control. They can answer your questions and help you find your new best friend.*****
