Let’s take a moment to thank the silent heroes who work every day to protect and care for animals in our communities — our Animal Care & Control officers. Their compassion and dedication make a huge difference in the lives of so many animals (and people)!
This week, honor them by doing something extra special: adopt your new best friend from one of our local animal control shelters. There are so many loving, adoptable dogs waiting for a second chance.

COURTESY POST FOR Berkeley County Animal Control - WV
They’ve Been Waiting All Year… and They’re Still Waiting
The kennels at Berkeley County Animal Control - WV are full again — not just with dogs, but with stories. Stories of loyal hearts, broken beginnings, and endless hope. Many of these precious souls have been sitting alone behind shelter walls since January and February… still waiting for someone to notice them.
Each one of them has been forgotten by the world… but it’s not too late to change their story.
Adopt. Foster. Share. Visit. Even the smallest action — a share, a message, a moment — could be the reason one of these dogs sleeps in a warm bed instead of a cold kennel tonight.
**** The dogs pictured below are available directly through BCAC. If you’re interested in any of them, or just want to learn more, please call or visit Berkeley County Animal Control. They can answer your questions and help you find your new best friend.*****

Please… don’t let them be forgotten. Open your heart—before it’s too late.
Please… don’t scroll past them. Don’t let them keep waiting.
Their second chance depends on us.

Tiggy is a stunning 3–5 year-old Presa Canario at (BCAC) since March 27, 2025. This gentle cuddle bug loves hugs and attention! She’d do best in a home with a spacious yard, no small kids or pets, and a family ready to help with basic training. Tiggy’s a treat-loving sweetheart who just needs patience and love to shine.

Midnight is still looking for her forever home. This dog is perfect, she loves people, she gets along with other dogs, she is housebroken, she also loves children. Midnight is a German Shepherd, Belgian mix who is a true sweetheart, 2 yo. She a very intelligent lady and needs someone who wants a companion to do activities with. There is only one request she had, no cats please.

Yoko is a cane corso/mastiff mix… for the uninitiated that is XXXXXXXL size. Yoko is a lot of dog & needs a family experienced in handling a dog his size. He’s super friendly but has a lot of energy (so would you if you were caged all day) so daily walks are a must. Once he realizes he’s going to get a good walk, he calms down on the leash.

Ace has been at AC since January, he’s been quietly waiting. Day after day, he looks through the bars, hoping this is the day someone stops and says, “You’re coming home with me.” Look at the smile! He is so gently on a leash

Ivy adores people and thrives on attention and affection.
Aurora is friendly, affectionate, and loves everyone she meets.
Chinook is friendly, gentle, and always ready for an adventure.

Hannah has been looking for a miracle. She is a senior lady who should not be spending the holidays in a cage. She needs a loving person to help her feel safe again. She probably needs a good overall health check, some great family meals, specially a nice comfy bed for her older bones. She knows there is her person out there, please be that person!!

Big Pop(pa) was seized as part of an animal cruelty case. But you’d never know he hasn’t always been treated well by humans. Big block head & an even bigger heart. He *REALLY* loves everyone. If you adopt this guy you’re getting a 100+ lb lapdog. Other dogs? He’s cool. Cats unknown… but quite frankly we don’t think he’s physically capable of chasing cats. Love this guy!

Golden Girl, senior hound dog Delilah. Don’t let her age fool you. Delilah is still young at heart! She’s looking for a retirement home where she can spend her golden years with a family to provide lots of love, lots of walks to smell all the smells & most importantly… lots of TREATS! She is a hound & that nose is powerful. If you have space in your heart & home, Delilah is the one for you!
